Trips in the UK
There’s plenty of reasons to travel around the UK – why not look for the things that interest you?
For example, if you’re interested in sculpture how about a journey through England visiting various sites like the Angel of the North and the Angel of the South? The Angel of the North is a sculpture designed by Antony Gormley, located in Gateshead, England. It is a steel sculpture of an angel, standing 20m tall, with its arms outstretched for a total of 54 m. It looks over a hill onto the A1, on the southern edge of Low Fell. The Angel of the South, also called the Willow Man, is a sculpture by Serena de la Hey, standing in a field next to the M5, near Bridgwater. The sculpture stands 12m high, and is made of willow withies on a steel frame.
If history takes your fancy, why not travel around the UK looking for battlefields? Of course, many battlefields have been built over, but some do remain. For a unifying theme, you could try and visit all the remaining battlefields related to the Wars of the Roses. Perhaps the most famous battlefield is Bosworth, located near Leicester in the North of England. It was on this spot, over 500 years ago, that the War of the Roses came to an end. King Richard III was killed, and the Lancastrian King Henry VII ascended the throne.
Literary roadtrips are also possible in the UK. Many readers have enjoyed tracking down the sites visited by fictional characters, such as Sherlock Holmes and Robin Hood. As well as the haunts on writers such as Hardy and the Lake District walks of Wordsworth.
Castles can also be a big draw and, if they’re your thing, there are quite a few to visit. In London there is the (in)famous Tower of London, but perhaps the most celebrated castle in the UK belongs to Edinburgh, with its beautiful views across the city and beyond being a highlight.
Campsites in the UK are plentiful, and you can practically guarantee that no matter where you choose to tour, you’ll be able to find a place for your caravan. Of course, before setting off on any trip, it is important to ensure that you have caravan insurance to protect your home from home in case of an accident.
