A minibus that has the ability to run on three separate power sources will soon be available for commercial use.
The BBC has reported that the ‘tribrid’ minibus was developed by a dedicated team at the University of Glamorgan and is powered by hydrogen fuel cells, lead acid battery technology and ultra-capacitators.
The bus has garnered much press attention as it is believed to release zero emissions, making it incredibly kind to the environment. The Energy Saving Trust has celebrated the vehicle, with CEO Philip Sellwood stating ‘This minibus is a great example of how cutting edge engineering can be integrated into a well known vehicle’.
However, though the minibus is certainly groundbreaking, it is not without its flaws. The ‘tribrid’ vehicle will cost between £90,000 – £95,000 to buy, have a travel range of around 150 miles and a top speed of 55mph. These figures show that whilst the vehicle will be suited to city driving, it might struggle with long distance or motorway travel.
No matter how eco-firendly your minibus is, it is important to have the appropriate minibus insurance that offers the right level of protection for you.
