Taxi driver finds huge wad of cash in his cab…

by Tim on January 13, 2010

A taxi driver in New York City has returned a purse containing thousands of dollars to one of his fares — with that sort of money he’d never have to worry about his taxi insurance again!

Either way, the BBC reports that the driver, Mr Asadujjaman, did the right thing and returned the $21,000 — driving 50 miles to try and find the purse’s owner.

However, after arriving at the address he found in the purse, nobody was in. Leaving his phone number at the house, he received a call while on his journey home, turning around to deliver the purse to it’s owner.

When asked if he considered keeping the money, Mr Asadujjaman said ‘I’m needy, but I’m not greedy … It’s better to be honest.’

Unfortunately for every heart-warming taxi tale, there’s always another disappointing one. In this case, it’s on our side of the Atlantic, near Norwich. A taxi driver is said to have left a couple abandoned in the snow, afraid of getting his vehicle stuck. After wondering for over an hour without proper clothing to fight off the freezing temperatures, another taxi driver came across them and offered them a lift home.
