Takeaways still beating the recession

by Tim on March 9, 2009

It would appear that British takeaways are still doing well out of the current recession.

Just-Eat, a website that allows you to order takeaways from a variety of establishments online, has just celebrated its third year in operation.

In three years, Just-Eat has served 7 million meal orders.  Surprisingly, it’s busiest day was last Valentine’s day, showing how, while restaurants suffer, Takeaway business is booming.

However, not everyone is pleased by the current success takeaways are enjoying.

Aldo Zilli, a TV chef, speaking to the Evening Standard claimed that takeaway fast-food was leading to a ‘nation of lazy, irritable people’. Zilli goes on to state that most takeaways pizzas are in fact ‘basically stodge’.

Surely, if Britons were really feeling the pressures of the credit crunch, they’d cook at home for a fraction of the price?
