Barry Island may possibly receive a new static caravan site

It has been revealed that Barry Island may be receiving a make over in the near future.

WalesOnline has written that it is the Nell’s Point headland that will see development. The site used to be home to a Butlins holiday camp and the proposed development illustrates a static caravan park with perhaps a pub and restaurant within the grounds.

In Barry Island’s heyday, people would stay at the Butlins park for a week at a time. However, since the park’s closure the town has seen only day-trippers as there is no accommodation for holidaymakers to stay in.

The current proposed project, has left residents a little uninspired and some have called for more imagination from potential developers.

Other suggestions for the land are not tourism-based. Some have proposed a convenience store with apartments. However, residents realise that the town would ultimately benefit from the steady flow of revenue that tourism brings.

If you own a static caravan let Quotiva help you find static caravan insurance that matches your needs, no matter where you are in the UK.

Static caravan ownerships in dispute

The Press and Journal has reported that residents living on a caravan site in Moray are concerned with recent letters requesting that they are to leave unless they shell out large sums of money.

The park is owned by Green Parcs and was investigated by police last year after a cheque error. The investigation showed that static caravans had been sold to multiple owners without the purchasers’ knowledge.

Residents of the park claim to have proof of their purchases in the form of hand-written receipts and legal documents.

Married couple, the McLeans, have been asked to pay £6,000 within two weeks or face eviction. They’re also dubious as to whether payment can be requested before the conclusion of the police investigation. However, Green Parcs director has stated that the matter of caravan ownership was separate from the fraud investigation and will be dealt with in the civil courts.

Residents to be displaced?

Residents living on a static caravan park in Aberystwyth , Wales, may be forced to leave the park after it emerges that their pitches did not have planning permission.

The BBC has reported that owners of the caravan park have applied for retrospective planning permission and also claim that the local Ceredigion Council, had known about all permanent static caravan residents since 1987.

However, the council claim that the park in question, Aberystwyth Holiday Village, was given permission for 24 permanent static caravans. They became aware of the current situation in 2007 — there are now 68 permanent static residences on the site.

The park owners are understandably concerned with the council’s recent request that a planning application be made. A member of staff pointed out that the council ‘has been happy to take council tax of these residents all these years and now suddenly they’ve changed their mind.’

Residents are now panicked that they have to leave their home and move to another static park for six weeks of the year. It is also possible that their static caravan insurance may be compromised if the land was built on without permission. The caravan park and it residents are now waiting to hear from the council.

The number of available static caravans throughout the UK is falling rapidly as British buyers have decided to make long-term commitments to holidaying at home.Park Holidays UK director, Tony Clish, believes the fall in static caravan supply is due to the expense of overseas holidays and the promise of a good ol’ fashioned hot British summer.

The market is in fact desperate for pre-used statics, as these are in demand with first time buyers. There are plenty of new statics on the market, but of course these are out of most people’s price range.

If you are planning on owning a static caravan in the near future, it is important to consider your static caravan insurance as it is important to protect your property in the way that matches your needs.

Fancy staying at a home from home at home? Park Holidays are giving away static caravans...

The Telegraph has reported Park Holidays UK is planning to give away some of its oldest static caravans to Britons that want a holiday home.Of course nothing in life is free — anyone that would like one of the statics must pay a pitch fee of upto £4,000 a year (with a minimum cost of £1,800) and keep the static in the Park Holidays park for the first year.

They must also pay £400 to be connected to their caravan to the electricity and water supply. However, to offset these costs the new owners are entitled to rent their static out to members of the public.

The safety-checked static caravans being given away are around 15 years old and some are worth up to £4,000. Original furniture, kichen appliances and carpets will be included.

If you own a static caravan, are interested in dipping your toes in the second-home market or pehaps making one your permanent residence, it is important to find a static caravan insurance policy that is right for you.

There are many similarities between static caravan security devices and touring caravan security devices. To an outsider they can appear complicated. However, it’s worth taking the time to familiarise yourself with the security devices available for static caravans; they can really help cut the price of your static caravan insurance.

Locks

The hitch lock prevents thieves attaching your static caravan to their vehicle and towing it away. As you will know, most static caravans still have wheels attached to their underside and so are still at risk of being towed by criminals. As a hitch lock lowers the risk of theft, having one fitted will also lower your static caravan insurance costs.

Wheel clamps

A wheel clamp performs a similar job to the hitch lock, again preventing thieves from towing your static caravan and thus lowering your static caravan insurance. They operate by locking a wheel into place. Both hitch and wheel locks differ in effectiveness according to price.

Anchorage

Of course, having your static caravan securely anchored is also important when trying to obtain a lower static caravan insurance premium. Anchoring your static caravan in its 4 corners will not only make it harder for thieves to steal but is essentially a basic safety measure as static caravans can be blown about in strong winds.

Double glazed windows

Double glazing can lower your static caravan insurance premium because it makes it more difficult for thieves to break into your static caravan. It also helps keep your static caravan in good condition, preventing any damage caused by damp, mould and mildew. Double glazed windows can also lower your heating costs as they help to retain heat within the static caravan.

The caravan site you choose to store your static caravan will have a big impact on your static caravan insurance.

Different caravan sites have varying levels of security. Some registered static caravan sites offer year-round supervision, which helps to lower static caravan insurance costs. However, many registered caravan sites do not offer such a high-level of supervision and some static caravan owners choose to keep their static caravan in an unregistered site.

Registered caravan sites

Registered caravan sites offer more security for static caravan owners than unregistered sites. This increased level of security means that static caravan insurance is cheaper when the caravan is kept in a registered and supervised site.

Not all registered sites can offer year-round supervision, but even unsupervised sites can offer certain levels of security that will help lower static caravan insurance.

Unregistered caravan sites

Unregistered caravan sites cannot offer the same level of security as registered sites and so are unable to lower the cost of static caravan insurance.

Caravan site situation

No matter how well supervised your caravan site may be, the cost of your static caravan insurance is dependent on the geographical situation of your chosen site. If your caravan site is within half a mile of either the seafront, a river bank, a tidal estuary, a lake, a reservoir or a quarry it is likely that your static caravan insurance will be more expensive than that of a static caravan kept in a site away from water.
