The Huddersfield Daily Examiner has reported that there are numerous unqualified drivers pretending to be fully qualified driving instructors in West Yorkshire. The fraudsters offer driving lessons at a lower price in order to lure in their victims. Anyone who takes lessons with these unqualified instructors is unlikely to pass their test and these people are not trained in what new drivers need to know.

The DSA have launched an investigation in the area and with the aid of the Police are trying to find those trading unlawfully.

Of course, the offenders are not only committing fraud for claiming to be genuine instructors but are also driving uninsured (without driving instructor insurance), which is itself a serious crime.

Students can be guaranteed their instructor is genuine by asking for an ADI number or asking to see their instructor’s green DSA badge.

This not only helps to protect the environment by lowering emissions, but also helps to save drivers money.

Driving instructor, Paul Helbing, has said that the eco-safe driving scheme goes against what many older drivers were taught when they started driving; ‘The new saying is “Gears are for going; brakes are for slowing”.

If you are a driving instructor, or run a driving school, it is essential to have the appropriate driving instructor insurance to protect you vehicle, yourself and your pupils.

As reported by Crain’s Manchester Business, based on the cost of £10 a day for multiple crossings in and out of the congestion zone that the Association of Greater Manchester Authorities has suggested, the toll could cost driving instructors thousands of pounds a year and test centres around £104,000 per annum.

Of course, these costs would be passed on to driving students, thus raising the cost of driving by even more.

If you are a driving instructor, or run a driving school, it is essential to have the appropriate driving instructor insurance to protect you vehicle, yourself and your pupils.
