A lorry that has a length of over 25 metres has been stopped by the police and has not been allowed to continue its journey.
The Lincolnshire Police stopped the vehicle due to its length which is considered to be outside of regulations for motor vehicles dictated by British Law.
However, Denby Transport who own the lorry, have argued that the vehicle has many attributes. Its size means that it can carry many more lightweight goods than the typical sized lorry without breaking weight limits – Lorries that carry light goods usually run out of space and not weight.
With this in mind the vehicle would mean savings in fuel costs. However, one has to ask how much a firm that uses the vehicle would pay for their haulage insurance premium.
The legality of the vehicle is in fact in question, as Denby’s lawyer believes that the vehicle meets current regulations. The firm hopes that a court case will solve the issue once and for all.
