Allied Vehicles has won a court case which will allow the Peugeot E7 — a vehicle that they distribute within the UK — to be considered as a Taxi on London’s streets and an alternative to the traditional black cab.Transport for London is not keen on the prospect of the E7 becoming a prominent site on London’s roads as they believe the vehicle’s turning circle to be inappropriate for use on the capital’s narrow streets.
The Evening Standard has reported that the Peugeot is incapable of turning between pavements that are 28 feet apart, a requirement that TfL see as a necessity for London cabs. More turning time essentially means more congestion.
Ultimately, if the E7 does make it on to the London streets, it will be up to the cab drivers themselves as to whether it supersedes the traditional and iconic black cab.
