London taxi drivers fight against falling demand

by Tim on February 6, 2009

Taxi Drivers made a stand against the rising number of minicabs on London’s streets yesterday (06/02/09) by forming blockades in various central locations.

Taxi InsuranceThe Times reports that a council supported scheme has let minicab drivers operate out of Leicester Square, supposedly lowering demand for traditional London black cabs.

The taxi drivers blocked roads around central London, including tourist hot-spots such as Trafalgar Square.

Demand for Taxis in the current economic climate has fallen considerably according to Steve Mcnara who is part of the Licensed Taxi Drivers’ Association. Of course Taxi drivers want to do all they can to lower competition and increase demand – whether it be trying to ban the increasing number of cheap private hire cars or reducing the number of  new black cab licences being distributed.

If you own a taxi, it is essential that you have the appropriate taxi insurance, to offer peace of mind and protection in case of a possible claim.  Quotiva specialises in helping drivers find taxi insurance online quotes for public hire and private hire by connecting buyers with specialist brokers.
