The Independent newspaper has recently published an article to help those new to driving better understand young drivers insurance. The article explained the basics of young driver insurance — the under 21s pay the steepest prices for their car insurance. In particular male drivers are the hardest hit. It would appear that quite often, young males pay more for their insurance than they do for their cars!

The paper also offers young drivers some helpful tips to avoid high premiums. Ranging from buying an older vehicle with a smaller engine, to taking the pass plus driving test which can considerably lower a lot of young drivers’ premiums.

Another tip the article provides is to shop around: ‘Research from The Asscociation of British Insurers found that motorists are able to cut an average of 35 per cent off their annual premium by comparing prices from five insurers.’
