Horse trailer used to catch speeding motorists

by Tim on February 20, 2009

The BBC has reported that a horse trailer has been used by police officers in North Wales to conceal a speed camera.  This tactic would appear to oppose The Department of Transport’s recommendation that speed cameras should be made ‘highly visible’.

As user comments on the BBC page note; It could be argued that the horse trailer would fail to deter speeding due to its low visibility and is therefore essentially useless. Some comments even suggest the camera has been hidden for the sake of generating funds.

However, the cameras may well have the ability to create region-wide compliance, lowering speeding cases and thus accidents.

In 2007 over 60,000 speeders were caught by speed cameras and officer-held speed detectors.
