First mass produced electric car on the way

by Tim on June 10, 2010

The Nissan Leaf, which is said to be the first mass produced electric car, should be hitting UK shores within the first quarter 2011.

The car is also set to be manufactured within the UK — with production starting in Nissan’s Sunderland plant in 2013.

The leaf will have a range of 100 miles and be powered by a 80KW electric motor taking charge from a lithium-ion battery which can be charged to 80% of its capacity in 30 minutes. The car will have a top speed of 90mph.

The car represents a new age in motoring — the next 10 years should be a very exciting time indeed.

Of course, a lot of the motor trade may be baffled by a non-petroleum engine! If you currently work in the industry, try Quotiva for your motor trade insurance, we make it quick and easy.
