Electric taxi ready to roll

by Tim on June 11, 2010

Keeping with the environmentally-friendly-vehicle theme that started in our last post, a hydrogen fuel cell powered taxi maybe closer to release than we could even have imagined.

In fact, it exists right now. The propulsion system has been developed by Lotus Engineering, whilst the actual fuel cell itself was created by Intelligent Energy. The vehicle also uses lithium powered batteries for some of its power.

If you’re a taxi driver worried that your old petrol taxi will be obsolete and that you’ll need to shell out for a new cab and a new taxi insurance policy. Don’t panic — these vehicles aren’t due to roll out for a year or so yet. TfL proposes that there will be at least 20 on the road by the time of the London Olympics.

The Quotiva Network can help you find cover for all kinds of taxi, whether used for public or private hire.
