Currently, only boats smaller than 7 metres long, with top speeds of less than 7 knots are exempt from drink boating laws. However, this may soon change.
Motor Boat Monthly, has reported that in May this year, a consultation will take place to decide whether or not drink boating laws should apply to smaller vessels.
As a company that operates in Henley-on-Thames – which duringĀ Royal Regatta week has to be the drink boating capital of the world – we can see no reason as to why this law was not in place a while back!
The law, if passed, will have an effect on leisure mariners who will no longer be legally allowed to consume alcohol whilst behind the steering wheel of their small boat.
It is important to remember that drinking whilst boating may well invalidate your motor boat insurance policy.
