Celebs and caravans

by Tim on January 12, 2010

Welcome to our first (and most probably last) celeb round-up of the caravan world — there’s more to Quotiva than just caravan insurance!

As you may have noticed, the number of caravans registered in the UK is ever growing — the half-million mark was passed a few years back. You may also have noticed that newspapers keep telling readers that touring around in a caravan is one of the hippest and trendiest thing a human can do. With this in mind (and the fact that you’ve not yet seen any of these hip caravanners on the road yet, out of mind) it’s unsurprising that a few celebrities have been known to dabble in the caravan world.

Jamie Oliver, celebrity chef and healthy school-lunch campaigner, is quite possibly partly responsible for the caravan’s rebooted image. In the past Jamie has been seen cruising in his VW campervan,  placing the camping and caravanning world back in the limelight. More recently, football superstar Rio Ferdinand has been seen enjoying a family holiday in a caravan park in the North of Wales, again illustrating that caravan holidays are about spending time with the family and not flashing cash for the sake of it.

However, sometimes you can’t help wish that “celebrities” and caravans had never been introduced. If the rumour mill is correct (and it rarely is) ex-Atomic Kitten Kerry Katona is planning a tourist attraction on the Orkney Islands. The park is hoped to be similar to Butlins and will offer evening entertainment. We’re sure northern Scotland can’t wait!
