Catalytic converter theft, now a grievance of many car owners, is gradually becoming a problem in the haulage industry too.
Commercial Motors has reported that an increasing number of catalytic converters are be stolen from HGVs.
Many catalytic converters fitted to cars contain platinum – often used as a component in pollution-reducing devices – and so can be sold to scrap dealers at reasonable prices.
However, a spokesman from Mercedes has explained that HGV catalytic converters often contain ’some metals but not platinum’. However, he goes on to state that, due to their price they could be stolen to order.
If you own an HGV it is important that you have the appropriate HGV insurance, to protect your vehicle and yourself and offer peace of mind on long journeys.
