Carvan polling station

by Tim on May 13, 2010

A caravan in Lochbuie turned out to be one of the smallest polling stations in the UK.

Lochbuie, located on the Isle of Mull, Scotland, has 32 registered voters and as the Times has pointed out, couldn’t be much further away from Westminster.

The caravan in question belongs to Mrs Gibson and is set up each election for all voters within eight miles.

The caravan is open for the same time period as any other polling station in Britain, 7am-10pm. The owner states that it can be hours before the first voter appears at the caravan door.

You have to wonder whether a standard caravan insurance policy will cover polling station use — always best to check if you’ve got any ideas in four years time!
