Caravans and council tax

by Tim on October 22, 2009

Councils in the north west of Wales have complained that some owners who use their static caravan as a permanent residence are not contributing their share of council tax.Static caravan owners are exempt from paying council tax as their properties are not seen as permanent residences. However, it appears that some owners are living on park sites all year round and using local social services without paying any council tax at all.

Speaking to the BBC, Clwyd West AM Darren Millar has claimed that if left unchecked the caravan parks could resemble “trailer park ghettos” seen in the USA.

Of course, park owners were unhappy with Millar’s comment, as it placed the sites in a bad light.

However, whilst tourism is important to the north west of Wales, it is also important that people are not exploiting local GPs and schools in the area.

Whether you own a static caravan as a permanent residence, or a touring caravan for the summer holiday, Quotiva can help you find some of the best caravan insurance quotes online.
