Caravan news round up, June

by Tim on June 25, 2010

With the sun consistently shining and the tourers out in force, you’d think we would have caravan news stories piling up all over the place. Unfortunately we don’t. Staycations are now old hat — the revelation that was staying in the UK for a holiday (something people have been doing for hundreds of years!) seems to have worn off a bit — people just call them holidays, like they did back before 2008. With that in mind, please read on for our caravan news round up.

First up is a caravan owner who got so sick of paying for pitches and caravan site fees that he’s placed his old caravan on the back of a truck and covered it in logs. It now looks like a large timber truck and is probably almost six times harder to drive around the country and far less fuel efficient. Who knows what he tells brokers when he’s looking for a caravan insurance. Pictures of the beast can be seen on The Scottish Sun website.

Another slightly more relevant piece of caravan news comes from the Isle of Man. Whilst most other authorities are looking to lower the top speeds of caravans, those on the Isle of Man believe that increasing the towing top speed may lead to less frustrated motorists attempting to over take in dangerous places. Thus leading to less accidents. I suppose there’s only one way to find out, but let’s hope those towing know how to handle towing at quicker speeds.

Finally, a 20-year-old Lowestoft resident has been fined over £100 to pay for his girlfriend’s broken caravan window, which was smashed after he decided to headbutt it. Remember that headbutting your own caravan window may invalidate your tourer insurance.
