The Conservative paryt in Bath have announced that one of the priorities in the next year is to tackle congestion in the city, focusing on lowering the number of HGVs travelling through the city centre.
The Freight Transport Association (FTA) have said it’s very important these proposed goals do not interfere with deliveries within the city.
Ian Gallagher, FTA south-west policy manager has stated that ‘HGVs are a victim of congestion alongside everyone … Removing trucks along the main routes into the city, such as London Road, will score a lot of political points, but not solve the congestion problem.’
RoadTransport.com have written that Massey Wilcox Transport, a Somerset-based haulage firm believe that the authorities should consider upgrading the A350 and perhaps fund a Westbury by-pass if they really want to tackle congestion in and around Bath. Emphasis from local hauliers, the FTA and The Road Haulage Association is that deliveries must not be affected.
