Asbestos claims still a worry for many employees

by Tim on February 4, 2010

Asbestos related diseases are often covered on companies public liability insurance policies. However, some believe that claiming is often more hassle than it’s worth.

A spokesperson for the Asbestos Support Groups Forum, that not only are those made ill by coming into contact with asbestos eventually robbed of their life, they are also robbed of fair compensation.

There are reports stating that those receiving benefits while suffering from mesothelioma are having claims money claimed back by the Industrial Injuries Disablement benefit as means-tested  benefits are cancelled out.

However, this problem is not going unnoticed. The Government has proposed a research centre to be set up in order to study asbestos-related diseases as well as insisting that insurance companies pay out compensation for victims who are unable to rely on their employer’s public liability insurance.

In fact, the Independent reports that an Employers Liability Insurance Bureau will be created to make sure that there is always a last resort for asbestos victims.
